«When Paris was a feast…»
Private Collection of Jacques Crépineau.
Opening wednesday 14th september
Exhibition september 15th – October 29th
According to M. Larousse, engraving “was an image printed only after having been engraveved on copper or wood”. Thankfully, progress on printing allowed typographic impression, lithography, off-set and serigraphy.
Passionated about these graphic forms, Jacques Crépineau sold his unique collection of theater drawings and now focuses on his extremely rare collection of advertisment engravings, which relates to his speciality as an historian : Belle Epoque, Roaring Twenties and modern posters, mainly devoted to great events, shows and music-halls.
One can appreciate the greatest pieces of specialized artists, well-known painters, together with stunning and magnificient engravings from nowadays forgotten artists.
Sharing a collection of unknown and fascinating engravings (about 24 x 16 inches each), “Quand Paris était une fête” is a great testimonial of what the City of Lights, “La Ville Lumière”, was at the first steps of the 20th century.
